FROM: Steven W. Leslie, Executive Vice President and Provost
Juan Sanchez, Vice President for Research

DATE: December 14, 2010

SUBJECT: Approval for Research Scientist/Engineer and Sr. Research Scientist/Engineer titles

Effective immediately, the Dean of each college will have final approval of initial appointment or recommendation for promotion to Research Scientist (0702)/Engineer (0704) and Senior Research Scientist (0701)/Engineer (0703) titles for nominees in academic departments or ORUs reporting to the Executive Vice President and Provost. Vice President for Research approval is required for nominees in ORUs reporting to that office. HOP 7-1020 is being revised to reflect this change in approval.

This delegated approval applies only to the evaluation of nominee qualifications for these titles and Deans are to ensure adherence to required qualifications as provided in HOP 7-1020. Normal requirements related to recruiting and the processing of all other transactions related to these positions still apply. HRMS documents will continue to route to the Provost's Office for units reporting through the Dean.
