Hamilton Book Author Awards Program

All books, including scholarly monographs, creative works (e.g., novels and anthologies of poetry), exhibition catalogues, textbooks, and edited collections published by The University of Texas at Austin faculty and staff are eligible to compete for the Hamilton Book Author Awards Program. Call for Research Excellence Awards nominations (PDF)
One award will be made to a faculty member or staff researcher who has maintained a superior research program across many years. The award will be accompanied by a check in the amount of $10,000. View past recipients of Career Research Excellence Award.
One award will be made to a faculty member or staff researcher (Code 1000) who was the principal or sole author of a peer-reviewed scholarly paper reporting original research that was published during each calendar year in recognized research outlets in his or her field of study. The award will be accompanied by a check in the amount of $5,000. View past recipients of Best Research Paper Award.

The Undergraduate Research Fellowship (URF) program provides support for specific scholarly research projects conducted by full-time UT undergraduate students enrolled in any department. These fellowships are intended to cover costs associated with academic research projects proposed and written by student applicants and undertaken with the supervision of a university tenured or tenure-track faculty member, lecturer, senior lecturer or full-time research scientist/engineer. They provide research support (up to $6,000) for specific projects of individual tenured and tenure-track faculty members. Special Research Grants
We will begin accepting applications for 2012-13 on Sept. 3, 2012.
Special Research Grants (SRG) provide modest research support (up to $750) for specific projects of individual tenured and tenure-track faculty members. These grants are intended to cover unanticipated costs or special needs and should not be considered a means of supporting on-going projects. Funds for special research grants are provided by regental appropriation and are administered by the Office of the Vice President for Research. These grants are competitive and funding is limited; applications received earlier in the academic year will have a better chance of being funded.

Subvention Grants
Funds for 2011-12 Subventions have been depleted.
The University of Texas at Austin Subvention Grants program, which provides a maximum award of $5,000, is designed to assist faculty authors in the publication of scholarly books. Frequently, university and other scholarly presses demand that authors provide funds to underwrite the publication of scholarly monographs and books. Subvention awards provide financial assistance to faculty members when departments and deans are unable to provide needed support. Funding for this program begins on Sept. 1 and continues during the academic year until funds are depleted.
