Proposers are strongly encouraged to develop basic synergistic collaborations with a wide range of US academic institutions, including four-year and two-year institutions, in order to take advantage of the complementary strengths in international research and/or education and broaden the impact of the proposed PIRE program. They are also encouraged to develop synergistic linkages with other domestic and international partners that will enhance the PIRE project, including research laboratories, professional societies, corporations, institutions of informal learning (e.g., museums, zoos), etc.
Program Objectives include:
- Enhancing research excellence via international partnership and collaboration
- Promoting educational excellence via international collaboration and development of a diverse US science and engineering workforce that is prepared to engage with the global community
- Developing international partnerships that enlist resources and commitments within and across institutions to strengthen the capacity for US international engagement at levels beyond an individual’s research group, for example, at the level of department, school/faculty, institution, and/or inter-institutional network/consortia.

Please submit the following materials electronically to limitedsub@austin.utexas.edu no later than 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8:
1. Dean's or ORU Director's Letter of Nomination
2. Four page maximum describing the aims of the proposed research project. Include key research and education goals and features. You should also provide sufficient detail to enable peer review of how the international research partnership will advance the frontiers of science of engineering, how the international education component will help train a diverse, globally enegaged US workforce, as well as the feasibility of the research and education programs. Please note at the top if your proposal is new or a renewal.
3. The bio sketch of the UT PI
** The Associate Deans for Research should submit all nominees from their college and rank them. A selection committee will then review all nominees submitted by the colleges and rank the nominees accordingly. The committee’s rankings will then go on to Dr. Sanchez for final selection.
