For Creating New Field of Science, Texas Chemist Wins International Prize
Dr. Allen Bard, professor of chemistry and biochemistry at The University of Texas at Austin, was awarded the 2008 Wolf Prize in Chemistry jointly with Professor William Moerner of Stanford University.

School of Architecture Professor Receives Rome Prize Award
Hope Hasbrouck, graduate adviser and assistant professor in the School of Architecture at The University of Texas at Austin, has been chosen to receive the 2008 Rome Prize, one of the most highly regarded awards in the arts and humanities.

TURING AWARD
Computer Sciences Professor Wins Highest Honor in the Field
E. Allen Emerson, professor of computer sciences at The University of Texas at Austin, has been awarded the 2007 A.M. Turing Award, widely considered the most prestigious award in computing, for original and continuing research in a quality assurance process known as “Model Checking.”

Engineering Profs Get Presidential Medal for Technological Breakthroughs
Two chemical engineering professors from The University of Texas at Austin have been recognized by President George W. Bush as 2007 National Medal of Technology and Innovation laureates, the nation's highest honor for technological achievement. In a rare recognition of two honorees from the same institution for separate discoveries, Professors Adam Heller and Grant Willson were among eight national recipients announced this week.

Three Professors Earn Top Scientific Honor, Elected to National Academy of Sciences
Three faculty members from The University of Texas at Austin have been elected members of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), one of the highest honors given to a scientist or engineer in the United States. They are Richard Aldrich, professor in the Section of Neurobiology, Wilson Geisler, professor in the Department of Psychology, and David Hillis, professor in the Section of Integrative Biology.
Professors Elected Fellows of American Academy of Arts & Sciences
Two faculty members at The University of Texas at Austin have been elected fellows of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. They are Dr. J. Tinsley Oden, an associate vice president for research and director of the Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences (ICES), and Dr. Mark Kirkpatrick, a professor in the Section of Integrative Biology.

University of Texas at Austin Professors Honored by National Science Organization
Four professors at The University of Texas at Austin have been elected as 2007 fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). They are: Karen Artzt, professor of molecular genetics and microbiology; Sanjay Banerjee, professor of electrical and computer engineering; Herbert Berk, professor of physics; and James Chelikowsky, professor of physics and chemistry and biochemistry in the College of Natural Sciences and professor of chemical engineering in the Cockrell School of Engineering.
Three professors inducted into National Academy of Engineering
A professor of aerospace engineering and two professors of computer science and electrical engineering were formally inducted into the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) Sept. 30, widely considered among the highest honors to be earned in the engineering and technology professions. They are: Stelios Kyriakides, professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics; and Simon Lam and J. Strother Moore, professors in the Department of Computer Sciences.

Biomechanics Scholar and Autism Expert Honored with National Award
Dr. Jody Jensen, an expert on balance and locomotor skills over the lifespan in the College of Education at The University of Texas at Austin, has received the Ruth B. Glassow Biomechanics Award by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education.

Peter Stone, associate professor of computer sciences at The University of Texas at Austin, has been awarded a 2008 Guggenheim Fellowship for his work on teams of mobile robots.

In recognition of past contributions to and future promise in the field of functional genomics and bioinformatics, University of Texas at Austin Professor Edward Marcotte will receive a 2008 Edith and Peter O'Donnell Award from The Academy of Medicine, Engineering and Science of Texas (TAMEST).

Global Satellite Mission Cited for Improving Understanding of Earth’s Water Changes
The Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) mission operated by the Center for Space Research at The University of Texas at Austin has received the prestigious William T. Pecora Award for outstanding contributions toward understanding the Earth through remote sensing.

Biology Professor Camille Parmesan Honored for Conservation Leadership
The nation's leading conservation education and advocacy group has honored Dr. Camille Parmesan, associate professor of integrative biology at The University of Texas at Austin, with its National Conservation Achievement Award for exemplary leadership in protecting the environment and natural resources.

Aerospace Engineer’s Lifetime Achievements Honored by International Space Foundation
Dr. Hans Mark, aerospace engineering professor at The University of Texas at Austin, will be honored with the 2008 General James E. Hill Lifetime Space Achievement Award from the Space Foundation for more than 50 years of impact and leadership in space policy and the space industry.

National Archives Honors Presidential Timeline, Commends Unique Vision of Creator
The University of Texas at Austin's "Presidential Timeline of the 20th Century" was honored on Nov. 28 with an award from the Archivist of the United States.

Hogg Executive Director Recognized for Outstanding Contribution to Psychology
Dr. King Davis, executive director of the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health, has been selected by the Texas Psychological Association (TPA) for the 2007 Outstanding Public Contribution to Psychology Award in recognition of his dedication to and influence in Texas mental health policy and service delivery.
