ARC provides veterinary diagnostic services through the UT Science Park at Bastrop. These services can involve anything from routine parasitology to complete serology and histology. Laboratory rodents can become infected with any of 12 common rodent viruses. Some of these are symptomatic and some show no outward signs of infection at all. However, the presence of any of these common viruses are a cause for concern when they infect research animals. ARC technicians periodically take serum samples from sentinel animals and request analysis to determine the viral status of rodent colonies. Researchers who request serology or histology services can expect diagnostic results in approximately one week.
