Two custodians are provided to the ARC by the University. One works in laboratories, for the most part, from 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Another is responsible for main facility hallway maintenance and works from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Custodians will sweep and mop lab floors daily if needed. Sinks and counter tops are cleaned daily also unless equipment is stored so as to prevent their cleaning. They have been instructed not to move any supplies or equipment unless directly supervised by lab personnel.
Break rooms are cleaned by custodians. Please do not leave dirty coffee cups, bowls, and other utensils in break rooms or the kitchen. These items will be confiscated by the custodians.
Trash cans will be emptied daily as needed unless they contain hazardous material. Researchers are asked to dispose of all syringes, needles, scalpel blades, glass, etc. in special ARC provided sharps containers to prevent injuries. When the container is full, it will be replaced, and the used container will be stored in the necropsy room freezer (rm. 1.104) for disposal by the Safety Office. Please do not put trash in the hallway after 3:30 p.m., since custodians will not be there to pick it up until the next morning.
Cleaning of all commons areas in the ARC such as the necropsy, surgery, and x-ray rooms, is in general the responsibility of the ARC staff. Researchers are, however, expected to clean up any grossly soiled surfaces, and failure to do so could result in a clean-up fee.
Any questions or complaints about the custodial staff should be directed to the Animal Resources Manager at 471-7534.
