The Entomology Collection at BFL

Since 1967, many collectors have contributed specimens, making BFL a center for biodiversity studies of the Austin area. BFL, Austin, and Travis Co. are best represented, but the collection also includes specimens from other Texas counties, other states, and a few other countries. BFL has hosted several invertebrate workshops, including general entomology and ants.

The collection is currently undergoing massive changes. The addition of new cabinets and drawers and the introduction of an electronic database developed by Dr. John Abbott are soon to become available online.

Major orders in our collection include Odonates, Hymenoptera, and Lepidoptera (Moths).

Geographical foci include: Stengl Biological Station, State parks, natural preserves (Nature Conservancy esp. Dolan Falls Nature Reserve), National Guard bases, Austin area
