Ray Marshall Center Director Christopher King participated in the Community Action Network’s (CAN) Community Council meeting on Thursday, February 18th. The purpose of this meeting was to present three education indicators included in CAN’s new Community Dashboard and to discuss strategies aimed at improving these indicators. The three education indicators are:
  1. Children entering kindergarten ready to learn.
  2. Percent of Austin ISD students graduating from high school in four years.
  3. Percent Austin ISD seniors who are “college and career ready”.

The Community Dashboard was developed over the past year by a Steering Committee, which Dr. King serves on, with the goal of providing a common framework to: measure progress in improving the social health and overall well-being of Austin and Travis County; foster greater collaboration on inter-related issues; and, increase community awareness.

The meeting was televised live on the City of Austin’s Cable Channel 6 and will be rebroadcasted on Saturday, February 20th from 8:00–10:00 p.m. and Monday, February 22nd from 9:00–11:00 a.m.
