5/2007 -- Life After Welfare: Reform and the Persistence of Poverty, a new book by Laura Lein and Deanna T. Schexnayder, with Karen Douglas and Daniel Schroeder, is featured in the new UT Press catalog. The authors chronicle 179 families in their lives after welfare in Texas. Using data and econometric modeling, the book explores the experiences of families working in poverty, barriers to employment, and a failing safety net of basic human services to sustain low-wage employment. The book will be available in December 2007. Visit the University of Texas Press for more information and to read chapter excerpts.
