Alvin Community College (ACC) Accomplishments for ACC’s Addiction Technology Transfer Center over the past four years include an extensive recruitment and training effort in Brazoria, Matagorda, Harris, Ft. Bend and Galveston counties.  Licensed counselors that graduated from the program are now working in the Texas Department of Corrections, mental health and mental retardation agencies, community hospitals, community counseling centers and faith based counseling centers. ACC  worked with the National ATTC Curriculum Committee for three years (1990-1993) and was involved in the state agencies adoption of TAP 21 Knowledge, and Skills and Attitude of Professional Chemical Dependency Counselor, that became the standard of competency for Texas licensed chemical dependency counselors (LCDCs).  Through the Gulf Coast ATTC, ACC provided numerous workshops on clinical supervision and counseling people with co-occurring disorders. In addition, ACC has been instrumental in providing NIDA and ATTC Best Practices information to area treatment centers.  In 2000, ACC began offering courses in Chemical Dependency Counseling over the internet.  One area of particular success has been ACC’s recruitment and retention of minority students for the LCDC program.
