Eastfield Community College (ECC) is a part of the Dallas County Community College District. ECC's average student census in addictions and counseling courses has grown to around 500 students per semester. All Substance Abuse Counseling courses are either now on-line or will be soon. This program offer its first Social Work course in Spanish in the fall of 2006. The program is now offering certificates in Gerontology and Mental Health-Substance Abuse Prevention and moving in the direction of offering the students the opportunity for cross training in other disciplines to enhance their knowledge and global awareness from the human service and mental health perspective. The program has partnered with the local Crime Victims Council to publicize the need for support for the victims of crime and the College will host the 2006 Council's annual ceremony on its campus. The program continues to be active in the community, offering co-occurring disorder workshops to heighten awareness and publicize the fact that assistance with the disorder is available. This program has also become involved in the Faith-Based Initiatives by offering workshop and seminars for and in conjunction with Faith- Based community partners.
