San Antonio College (SAC), a college the Alamo Community College District, has developed and maintains seven internet courses and continues to co-host, with the San Antonio Chapter of the Texas Association of Addiction Professionals, a yearly conference for continuing education updates as it has for the past five years, sponsors periodic trainings for the community, and provides at least 4 chemical dependency licensure test preparation workshops per year at minimal cost to attendees. SAC has utilized the GCATTC funds for out-reach through advertising and participation in career fairs and health awareness activities, resulting in an increased interest in the Human Services/Drug Alcohol Abuse Counseling program and increasing the awareness of the college and local population about the dangers of alcohol/drug abuse. The program continues to see a steady enrollment of individuals seeking licensure as chemical dependency counselors as a first or second career opportunity.  The program coordinator and assistant continue to attended at least one professional conference per year to obtain updated information relating research to practice. In addition, courses are periodically offered on Saturdays and Sundays, and enrollment for weekend classes have reached maximum enrollment. The program is also offering courses to nursing , kinesiology, and other non drug alcohol abuse counseling majors.  Link for details.
