Forum
2001 - "Best
Practices"
In 1995 Governor Bush asked his offices of Administration, and Budget and Planning to provide a conference to improve strategic planning of state organizations. In 1997 the meeting became the Governor’s Conference on Organizational Excellence. In the 1999 conference an emphasis was placed upon measuring improvements in organizational performance and the first Texas Star Award recipients were named. As a follow-up to that Conference a survey was conducted during the summer of 2000 with the Governor’s Offices to identify examples of best practices in state organizations. The Forum 2001 provides an opportunity to showcase some of the most promising and accomplished efforts by Texas State organizations.
These presentations in this Forum and the successful efforts of the past three Governor’s Conferences provide an exciting basis for the leadership of Governor Perry and the 4th Governor’s Conference. With a rapidly growing and complex state facing great opportunities and challenges, never has there been a time in Texas history when effective organizations were more important!
