Wanda Thompson
Associate Commissioner for Operational Support
Texas Department of Health
Education: Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Millsaps College in
Jackson, Mississippi. Master of Public Affairs from The LBJ School of
Public Affairs, Doctor of Philosophy in Education Administration from
The University of Texas at Austin.
Experience: Wanda worked as an Austin Police Department Crime Analyst
from 1986-1988, Agenda Coordinator for the City Manager’s Office in
Austin from 1988-1990, and Assistant to the Director of the City of
Houston Housing and Community Development Department from 1990-1991.
Wanda joined the Texas Department of Health in 1991 and has held the
following positions: Program Specialist in State Health Data, Special
Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner, Bureau Chief for Support Services,
Hospital Project Director, and Chief of Staff to the Commissioner. Wanda
was appointed Associate Commissioner for Operational Support in January
2002, wherein she oversees the Human Resources and Resource Management
functions of the agency.
Professional Association Memberships: National Forum of Black
Administrators (NFBPA); Vice President Texas African American Healthcare
Workers.
Honors and Awards: Outstanding Achievement Award from Texas African
American Healthcare Workers, 1988; Board Member, Austin Community Access
Center.
Robin L. Scott
Organizational Development Specialist

Texas Department of Health
Robin began her state service at the University of Texas, where she
worked in the deans’ offices at the School of Public Health and the
College of Pharmacy. She later served as Exam & Internship
Coordinator, Licensing Director and Public Information Coordinator for
the Texas State Board of Pharmacy from 1985-1994. Robin joined the Texas
Department of Health in 1995, and has held the following positions:
Information & Education Specialist for the Breast & Cervical
Cancer Control Program, Executive Assistant and Chief of Staff to the
Associate Commissioner, and Chief of Staff to the Deputy Commissioner.
For the past year, Robin has served the agency as OD consultant, lead
facilitator, and Coordinator for the Survey of Organizational
Excellence.
Honors and Awards: Outstanding Woman in Texas Government from the State
Agency Council to the Governor’s Commission for Women, 1993;
Distinguished Service Award from the Texas Pharmacy Association, 1993;
Outstanding Leadership Award from the Texas Department on Aging &
Area Agencies on Aging, 1993; Board Member, Extendacare for Kids, Inc.
Austin, 1985-1992. Executive Board Member, State Agency Council to the
Governor’s Commission for Women; Chair, Women in Public Service
Conference, 1992.
