CTR Researcher Dr. Yetkin Yildirim has been selected to serve as the editor-in-chief of the Technical Editorial Board for the Pavement Preservation Journal.
The journal is aimed at all professionals in the pavement preservation industry, as well as state DOTs, federal agencies, academia and researchers.
Dr. Yildirim feels privileged to have been selected for such an honor.
“It was very nice to be considered as editor-in-chief by the experts working in our field,” said Yildirim.
Dr. Yildirim is currently serving as the director of the Texas Pavement Preservation Center located at CTR. Pavement preservation is a maintenance strategy that allows highway agencies to adopt cost-effective and efficient programs to sustain roadways and extend pavement service life. The concept of pavement preservation focuses on dealing proactively with pavements still in good to fair condition rather than reacting to pavements in poor condition.
The journal, which will be produced by the Foundation for Pavement Preservation (FP2), will release its first issue in August 2007. It will be composed of two parts: 1) case study papers that will detail experiences of industry personnel, contractors and academic researchers, and 2) technical papers, consisting of new developments in research. Dr. Yildirim will serve as editor-in-chief of the technical papers.
“I will coordinate the editing process,” said Yildirim. “Each paper will be sent to at least four reviewers and I will make the final decision based on the information collected from all reviewers.
The reviewers serve as the Pavement Preservation Journal’s editorial board and will pass each paper through a high-quality peer review process.
“The editorial board is made up of well-known experts in their field who can judge the quality of the papers and make recommendations,” said Yildirim.
The board is asking prospective authors to submit papers in any of the areas relating to pavement preservation. Information for submitting papers can be found on the FP2 Web site at www.fp2.org. This site will also host the online version of the journal once it becomes available.
Prospective topics include, but are not limited to, asphalt overlays, scrub and fog seals, crack sealing techniques and materials, chip seal best practices, recycled asphalt pavement, hot-in-place recycling, micro-surfacing and slurry seals, pavement management systems, pavement maintenance, material characterization, non-destructive testing, surface characteristics, and pavement performance.
The journal will be published by Naylor, LLC, of Gainesville, Florida, a company with 38 years of trade publication experience.
