Qualitative Data in the PAIR Project

custdiv3.gif (1619 bytes)

This web site is primarily dedicated to the quantitative aspect of the PAIR Project, concentrating on our measures, scales, and research findings. Yet we also feel that an understanding of our findings cannot be complete without qualitative data. We feel qualitative data can aid the clarification of quantitative data by providing a more complete picture and phenomenological understanding of the information at hand. The collection of qualitative data also elevates the participant's voice and role. It provides the opportunity for the participant to express their own ideas about their marriage and their life. The collection of qualitative data also increases the rapport between the interviewer and the participants. The following pages explain the types of qualitative data we collect and demonstrate their usefulness in creating a complete portrait of marriage. Several pages are illustrated with cases tudy examples. Throughout these examples, names and other identifying information have been changed.
