Training Requirement for Human Subjects Research
The University Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) policy requires training for all faculty, faculty mentors, researchers, and students who wish to conduct human subject research at the University. This includes , researchers from other institutions, The required human subjects research training is offered online through the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Program. This training must be completed every three years.

Need to Start Your IRB Training?
Instructions for Creating a New CITI Account
NOTE: You will not be able to create a new CITI account if you currently have one.
Access to the CITI website through The University of Texas at Austin portal: https://utdirect.utexas.edu/citi/index.WBX
On the CITI portal select the option “I am a new visitor to CITI”
On the CITI Main Menu, follow the link to “Add a course or update your learner groups for University of Texas at Austin”
On the “Select Curriculum - University of Texas at Austin” webpage (shown below) select the appropriate modules that you will be taking to complete your training.
You must make selections for questions 1 and 2:
Question 1 Responsible Conduct of Research
You must chose: I need to complete IRB Course ONLYQuestion 2 Human Subjects Research
Depending on the type of research you conduct choose either:
Group 1 Social/Behavioral Research Course, or
Group 4 Biomedical Research
You will be directed to the CITI Main Menu. Under “My Courses” click on ENTER to be directed to your Gradebook with the modules you need to complete your training requirement.
