The Office of Research Support (ORS) does not administer or oversee HOP policy 5-2011 or training related to the policy. ORS administers HOP policy 7-1210, “Promoting Objectivity in Research by Managing, Reducing or Eliminating Financial Conflicts of Interest” so if you conduct research and have:

  1. Not submitted a Financial Interest Disclosure (FID), you will need to complete mandatory training and file a FID. Instructions for completing these requirements are located at http://www.utexas.edu/research/rsc/coi/training.html.
  2. Previously submitted a FID, you are not required to complete additional training nor re-disclose the same information to comply with the UTS 180/HOP 5-2011 policy requirements.   However, you may have other responsibilities under that policy.

Occupational Health

The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) would like to increase awareness in the research community regarding the HealthPoint Occupational Health Program (OHP).

The OHP provides job-specific health risk counseling to improve overall health & well-being.  In addition, most minor work related injuries can be treated in the on-campus clinic.  More serious injuries will be referred to providers that are approved in the IMO-Network and accept workers’ compensation insurance.

HealthPoint OHP is available, at no cost, to UT Austin employees as researchers or other personnel working with or exposed to:

  • recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules, biohazardous materials, infectious agents, and toxins.
  • human fluids, tissue, cells and cell lines.
  • animals or animal cell lines or tissues involved in research.
  • hazardous materials including but not limited to chemical, physical or radiological agents that require medical attention and follow-up.

Information you provide to the HealthPoint OHP is protected from unauthorized or indiscriminate release of personal health information, and medical records are maintained in a confidential manner and separate from department or Human Resource Services personnel records.

For more information on work related injuries and illnesses and additional services offered, please visit the HealthPoint OHP website.
