University of Texas at Austin research is changing
the way people live in Texas and around the world, from
providing tools for homeland security to advancing the
frontiers of emerging sciences.
Long known for excellence in research, The University
of Texas at Austin is staking out leadership in nanoscale
science and technologies, biomedical engineering and bioscience
and computational science and engineering.
Overall, the university has more than 90 research units
including the recently formed Center for Nano and Molecular
Science and Technology, the Institute for Computational Engineering
and Sciences, the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the
Wireless Networking and Communications Group. Off-campus research
facilities include the J.J. Pickle Research Campus in North Austin,
the Marine Science Institute at Port Aransas and the McDonald
Observatory near Fort Davis.
Annual research funding exceeds $380 million and more than 400
patents have been awarded to the university since its inception.
Since 1984, more than 40 $1 million endowed chairs have been
created at The University of Texas at Austin to recruit internationally
recognized faculty.
