TIPI provides a research-based program and a forum for digital information policy initiatives in the United States and around the world. TIPI is housed at the University of Texas at Austin. Established in 1996, the Institute is supported through grants, gifts and research contracts from a variety of foundations, public agencies and commercial enterprises.

Benton for a national broadband strategy

Charles Benton (Benton Foundation Chairman and CEO) recently sent a letter to President Bush urging the President to create a national broadband strategy.

"A hybrid system with wireless support" is the solution chosen by the community of Piraí, Brazil.

"Piraí Digital", one of the case studies included in the Wireless Internet institute is is inspiring 92 other communities around Rio de Janaiero (Brazil) to follow its example.

Latino Media Conference 2009: "The State of Spanish Language Media"

Scholars, students, media analysts, media professionals, and policy advocates will meet to discuss their research and assessments of the state of Spanish-language media in the world, and the status and future of Latino-oriented media in the U.S. FCC policies that affect Latinos and Latino-oriented media will also be discussed as specific research and policy agendas will be proposed for consideration by the next presidential administration and the new Federal Communications Commission.

...and Communications for All?: A Telecommunications Policy Agenda for the Obama Administration

Over the past year, the Future of American Communications (FACT) Working Group, composed of sixteen telecommunications scholars from eleven American universities, has been putting together a communications policy agenda for the next administration. On January 26th, they released the culmination of their work, a volume titled ...and communications for all: A Policy Agenda for a New Administration.
