Feasibility Aspects of a Texas Statewide Educational Network Connecting to Internet2

The prospect of a connection between components of the Texas educational networks and Internet2's backbone presents some interesting opportunities to achieve superior network performance, present opportunities for advanced research and educational applications, and reduce network costs over long term use. The TIPI feasibility study, based on interviews with network providers in other states already using I2 in their states, Texas Educational Service Centers, and with some Texas community colleges, private universities and K-12 schools, ultimately concludes that there is currently no strong demand for advanced network capabilities among existing educational constituencies. We also found that best use of Internet2 capabilities will entail extensive investment in support for additional training and technical support services.
