The Austin Telecommunity Network Project

The Austin Community Networking project is all about people and information. We represent a broad-based collaboration among organizations with varied set of skills, interests, and constituencies. What we do share is a common vision of a community network in Austin and Travis County that will provide a community-focused information network that includes a Web based interactive environment that will serve to open the door for all of our neighbors to have access to:

  Computer-based networks and services
Community services

  Educational opportunities via distance education
  Economic development
Opportunities to participate in our democratic processes
Opportunities to explore the Internet for information and to publish/create new bodies of knowledge

Our current collaboration is comprised of educational institutions, providers of technology training, healthcare organizations, Internet access providers and a variety of community based organizations within the City of Austin and Travis County. This collaboration was formed to develop a community technology resource map that would help meet the information needs of our constituents. By establishing new centers and improving current methods of community access to information technologies, the wealth of information that is currently available within our respective organizations will be combined and made accessible through the creation of an Internet-based portal.
