Funding or Award Criteria “..to advance materials research by coordinating international projects involving condensed matter and materials physics; solid state and materials chemistry; and the design, synthesis, and characterization of materials to meet global and regional needs. A critically important aspect of an IMI is its potential impact on advancing materials research on an international scale and developing an internationally competitive generation of materials researchers, and this distinguishes an IMI from other materials research centers that NSF supports.”

VPR Required Documents

Invited Deans and ORU Directors may submit ONE pre-proposal, which includes the following items:

  1. Dean's or ORU Director's Letter of Nomination;
  2. Project Summary (<2 pages);
  3. In outline format, concisely describe the following items required per Part V. Section A. of the solicitation:
    1. List of Participants;
    2. Results from prior NSF funding relevant to the current proposal;
    3. International Research Collaborations;
    4. Research Opportunities;
    5. Education and Training;
    6. Exchange Programs;
    7. Partnerships;
    8. Cyberinfrastructure;
    9. International Workshops;
    10. International Materials Research Network; and
    11. Management
  4. A tentative budget.


Notes PIs should be aware that there are more extensive full proposal submission requirements beyond those required for the VPR internal review.
