Zimmerman Recon Challenge (formerly Ironman Competition)
Hosted by The University of Texas Naval ROTC Battalion, the Zimmerman Recon Challenge is a grueling nine-mile competition that tests mind over body. To prove themselves, competitors perform a variety of events that focus on upper body, lower body, abdominal, and cardiovascular endurance.
The Zimmerman Recon Challenge is named in honor of Marine SSgt Christopher Michael Zimmerman of Stephenville, Texas. A member of the 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force, SSgt Zimmerman died September 20, 2006 while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Anbar Province, Iraq.
The competition is open to the public and all members of the community are invited to participate in this prestigious and rigorous event.
