Captain's Cup
Each semester culminates with the Captain's Cup Competition, in which platoons square off against one another in a three-week-long series of events that tests their physical fitness, military bearing, sailing proficiency, and knowledge. Triumphant platoons proudly display streamers on their guide-ons indicating in which field they were victorious.
Formal
The Battalion holds one formal per semester, either a Dining In or Dining Out. Only Battalion personnel and Unit Staff attend a Dining In, whereas dates and guests are invited to a Dining Out. The Fall formal is traditionally a Dining Out to celebrate the birthdays of the Navy and Marine Corps. The Spring formal may be either a Dining In or Dining Out. In addition to exposing the Midshipmen to Navy and Marine Corps traditions and ceremonies, formals are entertaining breaks from students' rigorous academic schedules.
NJROTC Meet
In an effort to recruit future applicants to this program from the Central Texas area, members of the UT NROTC Battalion serve as judges, inspectors, and proctors for the annual UIL Area Ten Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Drill Meet.
Run to Dallas
Every fall the University of Texas NROTC Battalion raises money to support a chosen charity. The fundraising effort culminates with the Run to Dallas. During this event, members of the Battalion run 240 miles in 24 hours from the UT Campus in Austin, to the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, while carrying the game ball for the annual Red River Shootout between Texas and Oklahoma. From the North, members of the OU NROTC Battalion run their game ball to the Cotton Bowl as well. When both battalions reach Dallas, they partake in a friendly game of flag football to commemorate their meeting.
Sailing
Each semester, the members of the Battalion participate in a full sailing curriculum. Though land-locked, Austin's Lake Travis provides the environment and yachting facilities necessary to support the Battalion's sailing program.
