UT Copy Centers take on mainframe printing
On August 1, 2006 University Services' UT Copy Centers will assume printing responsibilities for all mainframe computer output including financial reports, quarterly electronic office documents, etc. This change reduces duplication of services and eliminates dependence on obsolete printing equipment that continues to require daily maintenance.
The only thing that should change about how you request and receive these reports is where you pick them up.
Beginning August 1, 2006, all mainframe computer output will be routed to the main UT Copy Center location in the Social Work building (SSW G-14). UT Copy Center office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Monday through Friday), but someone will be available to take your call from 6:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. if special arrangements are needed. UT Copy Centers will also be open on weekends during peak usage of these mainframe services (e.g., annual budgets).
University Services' operates multiple copy center locations around campus, containing modern, state-of the-art printing equipment and providing dependable, high-quality services. Before this new service can be put into operation in other locations, some adjustments to logistics, physical security and operations processes need to be completed. If you have questions or concerns as we make this transition, please contact the main copy center in the Social Work building at 471-1615.
As an alternative to printing mainframe output, Information Technology Services (ITS) provides the Green Output service. This service allows output to be routed to a WebSpace account and viewed online. Although this may not be an option for all users, it can be very convenient for viewing and managing small reports. For more information on Green Output, you can:
- Review the Green Output information.
- Contact your departmental DPuser contact for information about setting up a WebSpace account.
- Contact your mainframe analyst for help in configuring your applications to use Green Output.
This change was announced in the UT Town Meeting held on July 10, 2006. Users of this service will receive flyers outlining the change with any output they pick up at COM 10. More information is also available from the University Data Center.
