All the passes for this event have been distributed. Passes do not guarantee admission. If empty seats remain at the time of the lecture, those seats may be available to attendees without passes. Stan Lee, the creator of Marvel Comics characters Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, The X-Men and Daredevil, will present a lecture on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. in the Texas Union Ballroom on The University of Texas at Austin campus. His appearance is sponsored by the Union’s Student Events Center Distinguished Speakers Committee. At age 16, Lee joined the enterprise that became Marvel Comics. After a stint in the military, he served as Marvel’s editor, writer and art director for 25 years. He was named publisher in 1972. Now chairman of Marvel Comics and Marvel Films, Lee has authored 12 books and writes a weekly newspaper column. It was in the early ’60s that Lee created Marvel’s superheroes, personally scripting two to five comic books a week. The daily Spider-Man comic strip he began in 1977 now appears in over 500 newspapers, and Lee continues to write and edit the strip himself. The lecture is free with admission by pass only.
