Tower lights recognize centennial of
Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Oct. 30

The University of Texas at Austin Tower lights will honor the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering’s centennial Oct. 30. The celebration can be viewed online as a webcast from the University Co-op’s Tower Cam at 6 p.m. The department will also celebrate the graduation this fall semester of the 10,000th B.S.E.E.

The Tower will be lighted with an orange shaft, white top and the number “100.”

The university opened its doors for the first time in 1883. Electrical engineering instruction was provided from the very first day. Twelve years later, the Department of Engineering was established, and eight years later in 1903 the School of Electrical Engineering opened.
