"Upstream" on KVRX 91.7 FM
Live broadcast: Thursdays, 8:00-9:00 p.m.
"Upstream," a community program that is focused on social justice issues and highlights the work of area organizations, is produced by School of Social Work graduate students. The show airs every Thursday evening from 8:00-9:00 p.m. on KVRX 91.7 FM, the student radio station of The University of Texas at Austin.
Created by a group of social work graduate classmates in 2007, "Upstream" has grown into a project that has included some of the most influential and inspiring social workers, community organizers, activists, and agents of social change in the greater Austin community.
The Social Justice Action Coalition (SJAC) at the School of Social Work has incorporated "Upstream" into its work. SJAC's mission is to provide university students and members of the greater Austin community with opportunities for social justice action, education and leadership. Interested students should contact the "Upstream" program staff at upstreamradio@gmail.com
The mission of KVRX is to provide an estimated 20,000 listeners in the Austin area with music and student-produced programming about issues facing the university student community, Austin, and the world. University students are responsible for designing program content, arranging and conducting interviews with guests, and operating studio equipment. They must also pass a licensure exam required by the FCC.
