Social Work Podcast the Brainchild of Alumnus Jonathan Singer
School of Social Work alumnus Jonathan Singer, M.S.S.W. '96, has been making technological firsts in the social service arena since the 1990s. He has built Web sites, developed a method to create electronic medical records and in 2007, launched the first podcast dedicated to the field of social work, socialworkpodcast.com
The idea for the Social Work Podcast began when Singer, a doctoral student and teaching fellow at the School of Social Work at the University of Pittsburgh, decided to record summaries of his lectures for students to review online. Shortly thereafter, he registered the Web site, and began to post interviews and information on a variety of topics including direct practice, research, policy and education for social workers in all stages of their careers.
The podcasts are available 24/7, can be downloaded to your computer, MP3 player and burned to CDs. This free media is making headway, not only here in the U.S, but globally. Singer says nearly 30 percent of those who access the Social Work Podcast are from other countries, with 115 represented thus far!
Go to socialworkpodcast.com and listen to Jennifer Luna-Iduñate, director of career services and alumni relations, who interviews Singer about the history and success of the Social Work Podcast and future goals.
