School of Social Work Moves Up in U.S News & World Report Ranking

The University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work saw its ranking climb from 7th to 6th in the U.S. News & World Report's 2009 America's Best Graduate Schools report.

The school is now tied with the University of California, Berkeley, in the magazine survey of top social work programs. The last time schools of social work were ranked was in 2005. The master's programs are the only Social Work degree-level programs that are ranked by USNWR.

Disciplines are ranked in different ways. The university's LBJ School of Public Affairs and programs in the School of Information, School of Nursing, College of Pharmacy and School of Social Work are ranked among leading graduate programs using solely qualitative (reputational) measures. They are ranked every three years.

Other graduate programs like those in business, education, engineering and law are ranked annually using quantitative and qualitative measures.

Dr. Barbara W. White, Dean of the UT School of Social Work, stated: "Our School is delighted by this recognition of continuing progress in our goals for greater excellence. Of course, the School is the sum total of its faculty, staff and students, all of whom demonstrate their efforts to reach for quality and excellence in the educational experience."
