Social Workers around the World join together to celebrate World Social Work Day April 15, 2008. This annual event initiated by the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW), a global body for social workers in 84 countries around the globe, is held to focus on social work's contributions to society and be part of an ongoing dialogue with all partners on how challenges linked to social conditions can met by communities.
In recognition of World Social Work Day, social work students, faculty and staff are invited to a presentation by a panel of international students who attend The University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work. The presentation is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, April 30, from 2:30-4:00 p.m. in the School, room 2.130.
The international students plan to address the role of social work in their home countries as part of the day's class in International Social Work (395K) taught by Tanya Voss, director of field education and clinical assistant professor. The panel presentation is coordinated by students and Associate Professor Dorie J. Gilbert, chair of the School's International Social Work Curriculum Committee.
