The Texas Market Rate Child Care Survey

Principal Investigator:
Laura Lein, Ph.D.

Duration: 9/1/91 - Ongoing

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) contracts with the Center for Social Work Research to conduct an ongoing statewide Child-Care Market Rate Survey. The purposes of the survey are to: (a) identify market rates specific to each Local Workforce Development Service Delivery Area (LWDA), (b) identify market rates specific to infants, toddlers, preschool, and school-age children, (c) identify market rates specific to day care centers, group day homes and registered family homes, and (d) supply TWC with market rate and related data for use in reimbursement-related decision-making. To these ends, a research team of students and faculty conduct a series of telephone interviews with child-care providers throughout the state of Texas on a yearly basis. Rates from the regionally stratified, randomly selected sample are analyzed to produce market rates for each of the 28 LWDA regions in Texas.
