Duration: 95 - 96
The Texas Department of Health contracted with the Center for Social Work Research to conduct research on the availability of transportation for individuals eligible for the EPSDT (Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment) Program. This research project involved the following four components:
- a review of prior research focused on relevant transportation issues;
- a targeted analysis of current and prior ethnographic interviews and focus groups to identify transportation issues for clients and potential clients;
- a telephone survey about Medical Transportation Services (MTS) with clients who had used MTS during a previous six-month period;
- a mailed survey about MTS to EPSDT clients who were overdue for check-up visits.
The results of this project helped to identify barriers for clients using MTS. This information can be used to improve access and availability of MTS by eligible individuals and families.
