Austin/Travis County Community Justice Planning Project

Principal Investigator:
Michael Lauderdale, Ph.D.

Duration: 3/1/99 - 12/31/01

The Center for Social Work Research collaborates with the Travis County District Attorney's Office and the Community Justice Council on the Austin/Travis County Community Justice Planning Project (CJPP). The primary goal of the CJPP is to clarify the values of and define community justice in Austin/Travis County. It will also establish the principles, community participation processes, and training to promote and extend these initiatives of community justice in Travis County.

The CJPP will begin by holding community focus groups in four neighborhoods in Austin/Travis County. Community members involved in these sessions will assist in establishing the principles of community justice for Travis County and will aid in the design and coordination of a conference focusing on community justice. They will also begin to develop an organizational structure to provide outreach to the community and to link neighborhoods and victims to the criminal and social justice agencies in Austin/Travis County.

The specific roles of the Center for Social Work Research will be to assist the District Attorney's office in the planning and implementation of the community focus groups and the conference, to develop and test a training curriculum establishing roles and procedures for neighborhood participants, and to develop a bilingual website for community members that will facilitate a continued dialogue about issues of community justice.
