Study of Texas Nursing Homes

This study explored the perceptions of Texas nursing home residents, their families, and nursing home administrators about what factors they believe contribute to quality of care. The purposes were to:
- (1) determine what residents, families, and administrators thought accounted for a "good home";
- (2) further delineate the roles and functions of nursing home social workers and their relationship to quality and psychosocial care; and
- (3) develop curriculum (consistent with these findings) for social workers and students who will practice in nursing home settings.
Findings suggest that meeting psychosocial needs are paramount to a "good" nursing home environment. These include creating a homelike, nurturing and attentive environment.
