Exploring Employability for Refugee Families in Central Texas

Principal Investigator:
Noël Busch, Ph.D.
Rowena Fong, Ph.D.

Duration: 12/2003 - 3/2005

This study will develop a plan for the improvement of social services, specifically a program of employability, for refugee families in Central Texas. The project develops from research that was conducted in phase I, Healthy Marriage Initiatives for Refugee Families. This research involved gathering data from refugee families and service providers to broaden our knowledge about and understanding of marriage and family difficulties experienced by refugees during the resettlement experience. The need for a program to address employability among refugees was a major finding in that study. The aim of this current project is to develop strategies that strengthen employability skills of refugees thus contributing to their acculturation and integration to their communities and self sufficiency.
