The Adult Protective Services Client Assessment and Risk Evaluation Form (APS CARE form) Validation Study

This research project aims to validate and evaluate the usability, efficiency, comprehensiveness, and effectiveness of a new elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation risk and intervention assessment tool developed by the Risk Assessment Subcommittee (RAS) of the State of Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and the Adult Protective Services (APS) Division of the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS). The validation and evaluations of the new assessment tool, the Adult Protective Services Client Assessment and Risk Evaluation Form (APS CARE form), will be achieved by analyzing data generated from its second and third pre-tests and, later, statewide adoption and implementation of the form. Specifically, the investigators aim to (1) conduct and analyze focus group discussions with the APS caseworkers who participated in the second and third pretests to solicit their feedback about the new assessment tool, and (2) analyze de-identified secondary data sets, in the form of the CARE form entries made by the caseworkers and other case files merged by the DFPS's IMPACT data management staff, that will be provided by the HHSC.
