Interpersonal Violence and Adolescent Mothers: The Role of Personal Relationships in Student Success

Several studies indicate high rates of interpersonal violence (IPV) for adolescent mothers. This project will examine how teenage mothersā interpersonal relationships influence their families, educational achievements and ability to participate in a Teen Parenting Program (TPP). Using a mixed methods design, TPP participants and drop-outs will complete questionnaires about their relationships and experiences in TPP. In addition, a small sample of adolescents will participate in an in-depth interview. The expected results of this work include a better understanding of how IPV impacts the lives of these teen mothers and their children.
