Career Advising

Need to speak with someone about your individual career path? Schedule an appointment with DiNitto Center staff to discuss your options, including academic considerations, career paths, graduate school, and to review or develop your job-search strategy and materials.

Drop off Resume/Vita/Cover Letter Review

Resumes and cover letters can normally be reviewed within 48 hours. Simply drop your document off at the student services desk or email it to dccs@austin.utexas.edu. We will critique it and return it to you to make the corrections.

Professional Portfolio Development

A professional portfolio is an organized collection of materials that highlights your academic, personal, and professional achievements. As you journey through the Social Work program, and enter into your career as a professional worker, a portfolio is a tool which will allow you to market yourself effectively and confidently. The DiNitto Center has handouts, workshops, and personal appointments to help you develop your professional identity in a portfolio format.

Resources and Handouts

The place to download handouts or follow Web links to get you started with your job search and explore other employment and professional resources. We provide many handouts to assist students throughout the process of applying for and getting jobs and internships. These handouts can be picked up in the DiNitto Center or downloaded in PDF format. Our employment resources will assist you in your job search, current employment, and professional development with a wide range of employment resources, networking, job resources and job posting lists, and State, Local and National organization homepages.

Email List

If you are looking for social work positions, fellowships, work overseas, or further opportunities in your academic career DiNitto Center for Career Services is the place to turn. We distribute both the national and state employment bulletin weekly to students subscribed to our email list. We also send out the bi-weekly Social Work Spotlight containing information on continuing education opportunities, internships, and school and community events.

Career Library

The Career Library is located in the DiNitto Center for Career Services. It contains an ever-expanding collection of books and materials about leadership, social work jobs, licensure test information and career development. In addition, you will find listings of scholarships, internships, and fellowships, as well as a binder of clinical supervisors and a list of babysitting resources to support our non-traditional students.

Social Work Licensure

We have licensure study guides available for you to check out from the library, practice licensure tests to assist you in exam preparation, and workshops designed specifically to help you understand what you need to know to pass the licensure exam. Visit our licensure page for more information.

Computer Center

The DiNitto Center offers computer stations bookmarked with several online sites to help students research relevant organizations and potential employers. You can also use the computers to write, edit, and print your resume, curriculum vitae and cover letters. We will even provide you with quality bond paper and envelopes to print your resume on.
