Restore Rundberg is a community revitalization partnership between the Rundberg-area community, the Austin Police Department and The University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work (watch a video about the project). Restore Rundberg partners are working to build collective efficacy, social cohesion and neighborhood attachment, as well as make improvements to the physical environment. The Austin Police Department has invested heavily in a Mobile Walking Beat, focused on creating positive relationships with community members and reducing crime in three crime hotspots. Crime data from the first 6 months of the implementation phase and preliminary findings from a community survey initiative will be presented.

This session offers an in-depth guide to non-profit financial statements, budgeting, and financial performance measures. Using examples, and through lecture and discussions, participants will learn how these tools are developed and utilized; understand how the various financial statements and tools are connected; get hands-on experience reviewing and analyzing financial statements, audits, and budgets; understand and recognize trends and forecasting; learn about financial ratios and other measures of non-profit performance; and will examine how social work ethics and values relate to these areas.

Participants will be able to:

• Read and understand the basic four non-profit financial statements, audits and tax returns

• Describe the basic concepts of budgeting and its use as a management tool

• Utilize forecasting, ratios, and other measures of non-profit financial performance

• Address ethical considerations in financial management of human service non-profits
