Research Associate
Monica Faulkner PhD, LMSW is a Research Associate with the Center for Social Work Research. She manages the Texas Child Care Market Rate Survey which annually surveys more than 5,000 child care providers. Additionally, she is the Associate Director of the Child and Family Research Institute (CFRI) where she is collaborating with experienced child welfare professionals to develop a research institute to address child welfare related issues. Dr. Faulkner is an Adjunct Professor who teaches policy, human behavior in the social environment and child welfare related electives. She is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio where she teaches human behavior in the social environment. Her professional experience includes both clinical and policy related work. She has worked as an advocate for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault at the Houston Area Women’s Center and as a case manager for children in foster care at the Austin Children’s Shelter. Dr. Faulkner also worked as a Legislative Aide for State Representative Garnet Coleman and served as Chief of Staff for State Representative Jessica Farrar. Dr. Faulkner has served on several boards including Latinas on the Rise in Houston and Adoption Knowledge Affiliates in Austin. She is currently on the Steering Committee for the Healthy Youth Partnership in Austin.
