Paula Yuma

Prior to engaging full time in the doctoral program at the University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work, Paula managed Injury Prevention Programs for Dell Children’s Medical Center of Austin and Children’s Medical Center Dallas. Paula has served as the chair of the Central Texas trauma region’s Injury Prevention Committee and at the state level on the Governor’s EMS and Trauma Advisory Council’s Injury Prevention Committee. Paula holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the Texas A&M Health Science Center’s School of Rural Public Health and is a Certified Health Education Specialist.

Paula’s research primarily focuses on pediatric unintentional injury prevention, and she is currently studying the impact of socioeconomic position on injury risk. She has published several injury prevention studies, most recently in the journal Pediatrics and The Journal of Trauma and Critical Care Surgery. Paula is currently teaching Research Methods for Social Work and is the recipient of the Graduate School’s Continuing Fellowship Award as well as the School of Social Work Continuing Fellowship.
