About
Cynthia Franklin, Ph.D is Professor and holder of the Stiernberg/Spencer Family Professorship in Mental Health at The University of Texas at Austin, School of Social Work, where she is also Coordinator of the Clinical Concentration. Dr. Franklin teaches courses on assessment, practice theories, family therapy and research methods at both the masters and doctoral levels. Dr. Franklin is an internationally known leader in school social work and school mental health practice. Dr. Franklin has over 100 publications in the professional literature on topics such as dropout prevention, clinical assessment, the effectiveness of solution-focused therapy in school settings, and adolescent pregnancy prevention. She served as the past Editor-in-Chief of The National Association of Social Worker's (NASW's) journal, Children-in Schools. Dr. Franklin is author of several books, including Family Practice, Brief Systems Methods for Social Work (co-authored with Catheleen Jordan and published by Brooks/Cole Publications), and Clinical Assessment for Social Workers, now in its' Second Edition (co-authored with Catheleen Jordan and published by Lyceum Press), and the forthcoming book, The School Services Sourcebook (published by Oxford University Press).
Dr. Franklin has won numerous awards including a life time achievement award presented to her by the Solution-focused, Brief Therapy Association for her work with forgotten children in 2003, a statewide achievement award for her advocacy and work in school social work in Texas presented to her in 2003 and The Alumni of the Year Award from The University of Texas at Arlington in 2003. Dr. Franklin has also been active in the practice community. She is a clinical member of The American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy and holds practice licenses in clinical social work (LCSW) and marriage and family therapy (LMFT).
