About
Jane Aronson Kretzschmar, Clinical Professor, currently serves as the Assistant Dean for Master's Programs after serving as Director of Field Education for both graduate and undergraduate field for over 10 years. She joined the clinical faculty of The University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work in 1989.
Professor Kretzschmar was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She has both undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Professor Kretzschmar held several different positions before joining The University of Texas at Austin. She was Director of Social Services for the Jewish Federation of Austin, a private non-profit organization; Employee Assistance Program Specialist and Alcohol Program Coordinator for the Family Service Agency of Princeton, New Jersey; and Assistant Coordinator for the University of Michigan Faculty and Staff Assistance Program.
Professor Kretzschmar currently teaches a graduate direct practice field immersion elective. Prior to becoming the field director, she taught practice courses and integrative seminars to both graduate and undergraduate students in field, served as a faculty liaison to those students, and taught an undergraduate alcoholism and drug abuse elective. Her professional interests are in the areas of Field Education, Employee Assistance Programs, and Gatekeeping in Social Work Education.
Professor Kretzschmar is co-editor of the book Case Scenarios for Teaching and Learning Social Work Practice published by the Council on Social Work Education in 2001. She has developed Employee Assistance Programs for various private corporations and has presented at national and state conferences. She is licensed by the state of Texas as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She is also a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers, the National Association of Social Workers, and the Council on Social Work Education where she is a certified site visitor. Professor Kretzschmar serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Communities In Schools Central Texas, a dropout prevention program.
Professor Kretzschmar and her husband, Peter, have twin daughters who are currently working in Dallas and New York.
