About

Professor Lauderdale teaches courses that deal with organizations, leadership, social change and criminal justice.

Dr. Lauderdale was born in Oklahoma and educated at the University of Oklahoma and Penn State University. He has previously taught at the University of Oklahoma, New Mexico State University, the University of Texas at El Paso and joined the faculty of The University of Texas at Austin in 1970.

Dr. Lauderdale has a long established research program that assesses organizational functioning and effectiveness. Since 1975 he has worked with the State of Texas to develop tools and procedures to improve services. The work is based on previous work that he has done in the Southwest, Mexico and Europe. The Survey of Organizational Excellence web site provides substantial detail on the history of this effort, findings and current activities. Within the last ten years Dr. Lauderdale has increased his research and service on the topic of leadership. Through this activity he works especially with law enforcement entities and initiated a new course in 2003 under the sponsorship of the Greater Austin Crime Commission in collaboration with The University of Texas at Austin Varsity Athletics Department. The course is called the Longhorn Leaders and is an effective program to improve middle school students' success.

Dr. Lauderdale and his wife, Camille, have a son, Gregory and a daughter, Marisa. Dr. Lauderdale's interests include serving on many community boards and using computers for forecasting.
