About
Dr. Novy holds a Ph.D. in Learning Disabilities from Northwestern University. His career has included classroom and clinical teaching experience with children and young adults with learning and language disorders and as an administrator of programs for children and youth in conflict with the law. He has served as the associate director of the Mountain Plains Regional Resource Center (MPRRC) at Utah State University, for ten years as a consultant with the Texas Education Agency in special education programming and accountability, and most recently in program leadership at the Texas Youth Commission, the state agency charged with the education and rehabilitation of incarcerated juvenile offenders.
Dr. Novy lived and worked in Brazil as a U. S. Peace Corps volunteer and later as a visiting professor of special education and linguistics at the Universidade Federal do Paraná and the Pontificia Universidade Católica do Paraná. He currently directs the Inter-American Institute for Youth Justice, a unit of the School of Social Work's Center for Social Work Research.
