Helping students get started through:

1. Planning and preparing beginning assignments
2. Introducing intern role to staff and vice versa
3. Clarifying agency expectations, protocol, mandate
4. Discussing supervisory style and expectations for supervision
5. Assessing intern interests, talents, learning needs and style
6. Partializing and partnering with the student
7. Discussing class assignments that relate to field experience
8. Offering support and positive encouragement with "not knowing"
9. Assisting intern with the development of an educational contract
