After application submission, it is your responsibility to monitor your application status and ensure that all documents have been received by the University. Please visit MyStatus to monitor your application.

Review Process

All complete applications are independently evaluated by members of the Ph.D. Committee. The Assistant Dean for Doctoral Education makes the final review and recommendation. The Graduate Advisor then forwards recommendations to the Vice Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies.

Doctoral applicants are admitted on a competitive basis. Consideration is given to the letters of reference, the applicant’s personal narrative statement, writing sample, GRE scores, GPA, employment history, and the applicant’s potential for research. Although a GPA of 3.0 is desired for admission, the average GPA of our admitted applicants is significantly higher.

Notification

All applicants are notified of admission decisions as soon as they are finalized. These decisions are sent electronically. We strive for a cohort of approximately eight PhD students per year. In order to achieve this number, we sometimes have to establish a wait list. You will be notified if you are admitted, denied, or on a wait list.

PhD Enrollment Deposit

Admitted applicants will be required to submit a $150 (non-refundable) enrollment deposit to indicate acceptance of the offer of admission.

The deposit will be applied to the payment of tuition and fees when the student enrolls. Details regarding payment deadlines and processing will be included in admissions materials.
