Statue Honoring Barbara Jordan Unveiled on Campus April 24

AUSTIN, Texas - School of Social Work Dean Barbara W. White and a number of social work faculty, staff, and students attended the Unveiling and Dedication of the Barbara Jordan Statue Ceremony April 24, on The University of Texas at Austin campus. Dr. Darlene Grant, Associate Professor, School of Social Work; Associate Dean for Graduate Recruitment and Outreach, was invited to perform two vocal selections as part of the program for the ceremony, which followed a week of special events honoring the late congresswoman. Jordan was a native Texan and the first African American from Texas to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. She is the first female public figure so honored on the campus.
